Watching Hunkkaar through my Eyes

The Rebel Review

I watched Hunkkaar not simply as a story, but as a question that stayed with me long after it ended. I kept asking myself: Who is really at fault? The person who crosses the boundary is certainly responsible. But what about the family member who refuses to believe the child? What about the person who trusts a powerful “godfather” more than the child standing in front of them?

What about the stranger who sees something wrong but chooses to look away? Hunkkaar made me think about how abuse is not only about one person’s actions. It is also about the silence, disbelief and misplaced trust that can surround a survivor. The most painful part is that a child should never have to prove that they deserve to be protected. A child should be believed, heard and kept safe.

For me, the real strength of Hunkkaar lies in the question it leaves behind: When a child is hurt, who will have the courage to stand beside them? The answer should never be “no one.” It should be all of us. Because the fault never belongs to the child.
