Suveraru dreaming

Soverato, Italy-February 2016

Suveraru dreaming, photo essay by Filippo Steven Ferrara

“Suveraru dreaming”

The series, “Suveraru dreaming” is a strongly introspective work basing on my relation to a place, Soverato (Calabria), in the south of Italy.
I have know the place forever, but just during summers: every year it represented the repetition of the same “summer-rituals”, the same people, same places, same familiar tensions and same sea. When I spent almost one and a half months there between February and March, completely alone, I felt thrown in a dreamlike atmosphere, where every known aspect had disappeared, where my memories melt together with this unknown, desert and spectral side of the town and the distinction between reality and imagination wasn’t possible anymore. The series is to be considered as an abstract introspective trip based in this lonely town and every picture as a puzzle piece of my exploration of this unknown but familiar place.
