Lustrous Night

Bangalore, India – October 2016

Lustrous Night, photo essay by Abhiruk Lahiri

“The true joy of a moonlit night is something we no longer understand. Only the men of old, when there were no lights, could understand the true joy of a moonlit night.” Yasunari Kawabata

There was a power outage for a day on the entire campus of IISc, an educational institute in the city of Bangalore. The campus is a place of residence of around five thousand people, consisting of students, faculties and other employees of the institute who are originally from different parts of the country. The 400acre of land has some old architecture and some new, some places are outstretched with trees, shrubs and bare field. Coincidentally the power outage night was a full moon night.

For the first time, residents of the campus noticed an unusual beautiful landscape under the bright moonlight. They came out from their place and enjoyed the beautiful night. This body of work is a documentation of the fascinating view of the campus and the activity of the residents during that night.
