[T]he prizes consist of an individual first prize of $10,000, a second prize of $1,000 and a third prize of $500. The work selected for first prize will also be published in Source magazine with a commissioned essay. Additionally, twenty-two artists will be selected for online exhibition and everyone submitting will receive a free one-year digital subscription to Source magazine.
The Judges are: Kate Bush (United Kingdom), a leading art curator and critic, specialising in international art and photography; Stefanie Grebe (Germany), visiting curator at the Ruhr Museum, Essen; John Duncan (Northern Ireland), an artist and editor of Source magazine since 1994 and Mariko Takeuchi (Japan), an independent curator, photography critic and associate professor of Kyoto University of Art and Design.
The objective of the award is to discover new work. Submissions are welcome from anywhere in the world and can include up to 16 images.

The award was established as the Cord Prize in 2013 by EA Lindsay, to support contemporary photography. The 2013 judges were Charlotte Cotton and Diana Edkins, and the first prize of $10,000 was won by Eva Stenram for her work Drape. In 2014 Lindsay formed a collaboration with Source magazine to create the Source-Cord Prize.
