[A]fter three years in his job as curator, Frank Kalero will say farewell offering a third encomium; on this occasion, In Praise of childhood. With this, Kalero closes a three year cycle that, in programming terms, has had as its binding link the fact that it furnishes a portrait of the liberty of human beings in each of the different stages of their lives. In 2010 the subject chosen was In praise of leisure: the time of leisure is par excellence when adults do whatever they crave for. The following year it was In praise of old age, a period when, if humans have plenty of something, it is time to show who they actually are.
The cycle draws to a close with In praise of childhood, the stage at which we are apparently absolutely free, with none of lifeʼs obligations and constraints to burden us. As we mentioned, Frank Kalero will offer his particular view of childhood, this idealised but tough time of life. For this purpose he has selected a score of works by Roger Ballen, Jill Greenberg, Paola de Grener, Jonathan Hobin, Jan von Hollenben, Frieke Janssens, Sofie Knijff, Margaret M. de Lange, Jacqueline Roberts, Alessandra Sanguinetti, Robin Schwartz, Vee Speers, Ilona Szwarc, Javier Tles, Jon Uriarte, Tereza Vlckova, JeongMee Yoon and O Zhang.
GetxoPhoto is a festival dedicated to photography that takes place in Getxo (Basque Country) and supports the exploration of formats, stands and unconventional exhibition spaces to show the different images. This is a thematic festival that every three years works together with a different curator who understands the photography as a tool of knowledge, communication, and of course artistic enjoyment.
