To fill the void has two meanings.
1. It represents an achievement worthy of recognition. “Fill in a gap” is frequently used in sentences describing achievements made by Chinese people who have helped China catch up in various areas with other nations. My generation takes responsibility for several reforms in China and “filling in the gap” has always been a major task for us.
2. I use my body to fill in a gap. Such a personal experience foregrounds the value of “body” over “personality” (spirit), which successfully transfers anxiety and bodily pain into pleasure. On the other hand, the “gap” is not really filled because of my action. On the contrary, my action highlights and benchmarks the gap.
