Vincent Nguyen, Franciliens, from PRIVATE 49 – FRANCE présences
[C]rossing the suburbs from the town of Bonnières (Yvelines) to Bray-sur-Seine (Seine-et-Marne), 90 km from Paris, through Roissy village (Val d’Oise), this 2008 journey of the Ile-de-France region was an assignment for the newspaper Libération.Early-morning commuters wait for unreliable trains heading towards the capital, improbable bus stops sit in the middle of nowhere, landscapes lay on a distant horizon; its inhabitants are ‘Parisians’ for provincial people, and ‘yokels’ for Parisians, either country people that the town has caught up with or urbanites looking for peace and greenery. A Parisian region far from the cliché of the city of lights.
