Olivier Pasquiers, Les Oubliés de guerre, from PRIVATE 49 – FRANCE présences
[F]ormer Moroccan soldiers from the French army. There are about thirty former soldiers of the French army of Moroccan origin living at the Sonacotra Home in Beauvais. Aged from seventy to more than eighty, they have been arriving in France since 1999. Most of them have come here for the first time, and have never worked here. For several years, with the help of associations, former foreign soldiers of the French army have become aware that they can take advantage of certain provisions in French law. From the 1960’s, ten year residence permits have been granted to holders of combatant cards. This will have some consequences; during the last decade every French resident over 65 years of age, on demonstrating that they have insufficient means, will be able to claim the minimum pension.
