[T]hese photographs have been made during Ramadan. Ramadan is a fasting month and a holiday. Ramadan is also a time when the Muslims are to slow down from worldly affairs and focus on self-reformation, spiritual cleansing and enlightenment; this is to establish a link between themselves and Allah through prayer, supplication, charity, good deeds, kindness and helping others. Since it is a festival of giving and sharing, the Muslims prepare special foods and buy gifts for their family and friends, and for giving to the poor and needy who cannot afford it. Friday prayers are massively participated, up to 250 thousand people go to the Temple Mount.

It is a special honour to die during Ramadan, the family brings the body to the Al-Aqsa Mosque and then buries it next to the Temple Mount walls. Ramadan in Jerusalem is probably the most important event for the Palestinian people to feel like a nation.
