Buy PRIVATE 46 [J]H Engström has developed for approximately 15 years a work where, with his own touch and outside the conventions of the portrait, still life and landscape, he mainly shows his everyday life and his close relations. From Back Home is a personal glance at his native region of Värmland, a province in the western center of Sweden.
The question of time and of memory is explicitly approached by the big, precarious and melancholic mosaics of small prints accumulated by the artist.
These big sizes are prolonged by the other photographs which alternate, in an apparently arbitrary editing, between black and white and color, very contrasted or finely differentiating images, composed or stolen portraits, romantic or dreary landscapes.
