Dean Sewell, Murray-Darling in Crisis Australia, from PRIVATE 45 – Development. An Ecological Question

This story is about Australia’s Murray-Darling River System. These two rivers form the most important series of Rivers, watercourses, lakes and wetlands in Australia and account for most of Australia’s food production. However, after years of prolonged drought, land mismanagement, over-regulation of water and over-allocation of water, our river systems are drying up.

The majestic River Red Gum trees are dying, aquatic life is perishing in hypersaline waters, soil erosion is creating desert landscapes, wildfires are ravaging the lands and acid-sulfate soils are contaminating important wetlands, billabongs and lakes. This is an extract from an ongoing body of work carried out over the last 5 years.
