Buy/Gift PRIVATE 44 [E]very 17 of December, for San Lazaro’s celebration, thousands of pilgrims from all over Cuba make a pilgrimage to the Santuario del Rincon, in Santiago de la Vega. A number of them sick, they travel the 30 km from Havana to this village as an expression of their faith. Most crawl on their knees or barefoot, pulling big stones or heavy chains tied to their bodies for days or weeks to complete the journey. This self-imposed suffering serves as a test of their devotion to San Lazaro.
