Yolande Snyders, Living in the real world, from PRIVATE 36 – AFRIKA

[I] photographed the South African hip hop group, Brasse Vannie Kaap, because they live in a dangerous and unpredictable environment which they use to their advantage, breaking through the borders of the South African music industry and by rapping their life experiences in Afrikaans.

BVK have played with well known international groups, performing at charity events, and have worked in their own communities to encourage the youth to live a better life. My photographs show them in their own environment, the Cape Flats, being themselves.
