[D]reamtime in Breathless Spaces explores the race by property developers to replace natural urban spaces with shopping malls. These artificial environments with their neon lights, white noise and glaring signage are becoming not only centers for business, but also the accepted areas for social interaction. The third section was shot at various shopping malls in the suburbs of Johannesburg using a point and shoot camera. Williams shot from the hip, obtaining candid images with an often disturbing perspective. The blurred and out of focus results emphasize the nightmarish quality of these environments.
