The Silver Chain

[ Ernest Dempsey ]

The silver chain of the petty jeweler
Shone dazzlingly on Dale’s eyes
The links of it reminding him
The dungeon of his life
Where a gleam of light alone
Would turn the prisoner blind
And light itself so fears its dark
To cover it from every sight
Thus producing the glorious gleam
That fascinates the eye
So Dale went on and bought that chain
And wore it in his neck
To be the Rex of all those chains
That he wore all his life
