These are photographs taken in Cameron Parish, Louisiana (USA) three months after Hurricane Rita destroyed most of the area. It was easy to see how very little progress had been made in cleaning up the area. It still looked like a bomb had gone off. All the buildings had been gutted by the winds. It was my first time seeing destruction of this magnitude in my own country. The people were strong and used to Hurricanes, but not anything like this. Huge frustrations were mounting. The Bush administrations response had been abysmal. People wished that FEMA had never come to the area. They were telling people that they could not return to their homes. Their insurance companies were either refusing to pay the full amount of people's policies or not returning their phone calls. Churches and individuals that organized donations were the only ones helping them. Other than that people were completely on their own. I have no idea how long it will take the people of Cameron to get back to where they were before the storm.
