La Guajira

Punta Gallinas, Colombia – November 2014. A local man shows tourists the sights around Punta Gallinas, that only someone who lives there would know about, and how to get to without clearly defined roads.

La Guajira, photo essay by Sarah Palmer

La Guajira Desert is a vast, beautifully unaffected area in northeastern Colombia, along the Caribbean Sea. This region’s amenities are bare bones and unassuming, in a romantic kind of way.

With tourism growing rapidly in the country, the area won’t remain like this for long. It is a fleeting glimpse into how things were and are, for now.

Note: all images from this series are shot on film and created by composing multi-frame exposures in camera, with no manipulation in post.
