From July 2 to July 7 2012, the Voies Off festival will present an ambitious program, stressing its constant commitment to emerging artists.
This year Voies Off will showcase the works from Nordic countries, former and current students of the Arles National School of Photography, and the selections competing for the 2012 Voies Off Prize.
> Photographic Emergences from Nordic Countries
The 2012 Voies Off festival opens its doors to the photography of Nordic countries. Elina Heikka and Anna-Kaisa Rastenberger from the Finnish Museum for Photography are given carte blanche for an exceptional night projection for which they have collaborated with various Scandinavian and Icelandic museums. The Voies Off gallery will exhibit a body of work by the Finnish photographer, Elina Brotherus, selected from her latest monograph, The Artist and Her Model, released in April 2012 by Le Caillou Bleu editions (Brussels).
> The Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la photographie d’Arles celebrates its 30th Anniversary
Without the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie in Arles, Voies Off may have never been born–after all, one of the founders and now current director of the festival is an alumnus of the school. As a result and a tribute in 2012, Voies Off will participate in the celebration of its 30th anniversary. Voies Off and the ENSP are co-curating an evening projection on works by the school’s graduates. “Commitment” will be the common theme.
> Selections for the 2012 Voies Off Prize
Every year the Voies Off Prize is awarded to a visual artist for the clarity of their vision as well as the quality of their eye. Voies Off received over 1,400 applications this year, from the five continents. The final selection will present the works of about 60 participants whose images will be projected during the Voies Off night showings. This year’s theme addresses the evolutions of our contemporary world.
A 2,500 € prize will be awarded to the 2012 winner on the closing night of the 2012 Voies Off festival, Saturday July 7.
> Support and guidance for young authors
Since its inception Voies Off has supported young authors in their artistic and professional endeavors. The festival has created a number of venues addressing their needs, one of them being a meeting place during the festival itself proposing portfolio reviews, professional morning meetings, workshops, and «Voies Off Digital.»
The Voies Off portfolio reviews consist in a series of 20-minutes’ rendezvous allowing photographers to present their portfolios to experts: publishers, curators, gallery-owners, photo-dealers, critics, members of photo-collectives, directors of festivals and photo-agencies…
The Voies Off professional mornings consist in panel discussions with professionals on the current state of the field.
The Voies Off workshops create opportunities for young artists to present their work in depth, have it discussed and critiqued by professionals.
Voies Off Digital consist in a sort of salon dedicated to new photographic tools and techniques presented by manufacturers and distributers to the audience of the 2012 Voies Off festival through demos, lectures, and workshops.
